Kim Clarke

Kim Clarke was my uncle, my father's (RTC) brother, and sons of Kenneth Burwell Clarke.

I have 3-4 of his watercolors, inherited from my parents.
I did not know him well. A few family visits. He died of a heart attack around 1965.

"While a resident of Pasadena in the 1920s and 1930s, Clarke was active in the local art scene. His subjects included ships and railroads. Exh: Painters & Sculptors of LA, 1928, 1932; San Diego FA Gallery, 1933; Graves Gallery (Santa Barbara, 1938; LA Public Library, 1935; Calif. WC Society, 1939."

He apparently was friends with Millard Sheets -- a prominent California artist. When visiting the summer home of my brothers's first wife's (Kathy) grandparents (Behrens sp?) on north cost of California (Anchor Bay?), my dad saw that Millard Sheets lived in a great house out on a small peninsula jutting out into the ocean. We went to pay a visit. He remembered my dad well, but appeared to have been better friends with Kim in their early art days in Southern California. I think Millard may have lived with Kim and my grandfather -- I remember some of the conversation about that. Struggling artists and all.

Nathanael Greene

Nathanael Green was related to the Clarke line. Need family records box to recall exact link.

Nathaniel Greene, an American Revolutionary War general, was second to George Washington He is noted for his triumphs against the British in North and South Carolina during 1780 and 1782.

As I recall, his baby daughter was passed up through a crowd (mosh pit style) to General de Lafeyette -- the french general -- to be kissed.

I have recently come across Greene in readings (not research) in the recently published (around 2006 or so) 1776 and the biography of Alexander Hamilton.

Revolutionary war links:
In family records I left some prior research showing two Garnsey's (direct descendents) also father and son fought in Revolutionary war. (All while Thomas Talbot was in British army in England at the time.)
