Nathanael Greene was a Revolutionary War General who studied law under Thomas Jefferson. He led American forces in major battles and served as supreme commander of the Continental Army in Sept., 1780;
Greene's battlefield strategy forced Cornwallis to Yorktown.

As I recall, his baby daughter was passed up through a crowd (mosh pit style) to General de Lafeyette -- the french general -- to be kissed.
I have recently come across Greene in readings (not research) in the recently published (around 2006 or so) 1776 and the biography of Alexander Hamilton.
Revolutionary war links:
In family records I left some prior research showing two Garnsey's (direct descendents) also father and son fought in Revolutionary war. (All while Thomas Talbot was in British army in England at the time.)
